Microsoft begins rolling out a Windows 11 preview update on October 30, 2026, to address a long-standing user complaint about the right-click menu and introduces a cloud-based recovery tool.
What changed
Microsoft is rolling out a Windows 11 preview update on October 30, 2026, targeting a persistent annoyance with the right-click menu. The update, designated KB5127936, is cumulative for Windows 11 versions 26H2 and 25H2. It also introduces a new cloud recovery feature called Cloud Rebuild, which allows users to reinstall Windows 11 without bootable media or a working system.
What is confirmed
The update addresses a long-standing user complaint about the restructured right-click menu in Windows 11, which disrupted muscle memory and hid commands behind additional clicks. Microsoft confirmed the rollout of KB5127936 as a gradual process, with full availability planned for all Windows 11 devices. The Cloud Rebuild feature enables users to reinstall Windows 11 even if their system is unbootable, downloading both the operating system and drivers from Windows Update. The timing of the update coincides with Microsoft’s quarterly financial report, which noted a decline in PC license sales.
What to watch or do next
Users should check for the KB5127936 update through Windows Update in the coming weeks. Developers and power users are advised to monitor Microsoft’s official documentation for details on the right-click menu changes. The Cloud Rebuild feature may reduce the need for physical recovery media, but its effectiveness in extreme system failures remains untested.
